Bamboos are evergreen perennial flowering plants, belonging to the subfamily, Bambusoideae of the grass family, Poaceae. They are readily available locally, in huge abundance.
Cameroon has the second-largest bamboo area in Africa after Ethiopia. It is home to 15 species of bamboo out of the 1,642 species identified worldwide.
Bamboo which is self-regenerating, is the fastest growing land plant in the world. Bamboo is mostly drought tolerant and will survive a lack of water. Bamboo can protect against erosion.
Planting bamboo is a great way to reduce carbon footprint and help fight global warming. Bamboo is a viable replacement for wood.
Although forest bamboo is the overwhelming dominant raw material, there is an increasing number of bamboo plantations sprouting up. Summit Corp is part of this trend, we have a 55-hectare farm on which a portion is dedicated to bamboo growing, at the same time fostering community participation in bamboo harnessing and value chain participation.
We have invested in a 21-machine strong, automated multi-products manufacturing line. The bamboo factory is set to produce toothpicks, skewers, and slats, with other bamboo products lined up. This stands as Cameroon’s pioneer toothpick production plant.
We intend to play a significant role in the local bamboo transformation and value-addition initiative.
